At Jubilee Daycare, we believe in hands-on learning experiences that connect our children to the natural world. This time of year, our farm comes alive with an exciting event that the children look forward to—shearing season! 🌞
This year, the children had a woolly good time observing in the shearing process. Watching the sheep receive their summer trims was not only a unique experience but also an educational one. The children were captivated as they learned about the incredible journey of wool—from the sheep’s back to a wide array of sustainable uses. ♻️
Shearing is much more than just a haircut for the sheep. We took the opportunity to explain to the children how this practice plays a vital role in keeping our sheep cool and comfortable during the warmer months. They were fascinated to learn that shearing also helps maintain the sheep’s health by reducing the risk of parasitic infestations and diseases—something we all certainly want to avoid!
By engaging with this process, the children gained a deeper understanding of animal care and sustainable farming practices. It’s moments like these that bring our curriculum, forest school, to life, fostering a sense of responsibility and appreciation for the world around us.
Stay tuned for more updates from our farm adventures and other exciting activities happening at Jubilee Daycare!
